Farmers Protest: The US on Wednesday issued a security alert for its citizens in India, advising them to take steps to protect themselves as well as avoid key areas, crowds and demonstrations in the wake of farmers’ protests in New Delhi. The farmers union had said on Tuesday that during the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament, a ‘Kisan Sansad’ would be organized at Jantar Mantar and 200 protesters would reach there daily from the Singhu border from July 22. Farmer organizations are adamant on the demand for repeal of all three laws and guarantee of law on MSP.
Advised to avoid crowds and demonstrations
“The US Embassy is aware of reports of possible demonstrations by farmers in and around New Delhi on July 21 and 22,” the embassy said in a press release on Wednesday. Violence has taken place in such protests in the past.” It added that there could be more police, additional checkpoints and an unknown number of protesters on the streets in and around Delhi. It advised them to avoid gatherings, demonstrations in important areas, including Parliament, to review their personal security plans and to follow the instructions of law enforcement officials.
‘Kisan Sansad’ will run till August 13
Farmer leaders have said that they will organize a ‘Kisan Sansad’ from July 22 till the end of the monsoon session and 200 protesters will visit Jantar Mantar every day. The monsoon session of Parliament began on Monday and will conclude on August 13.
The tractor parade, held on January 26 to highlight the demands of farmers’ unions to repeal three new agricultural laws, turned chaotic on the streets of the capital as thousands of protesters broke barricades, clashed with police and A religious flag was hoisted on the ramparts of the Red Fort.
