Tom Latham will lead the team in place of Williamson.

They said, "It is not an easy decision to keep Williamson out for the Test match but I think it is the right decision."
Williamson’s elbow has been injected. The coach said "Williamson has injected into the elbow so that he can get relief from the problem. Williamson was having trouble while batting and getting rest and rehabilitation will help him recover soon."
Williamson expected to be fit for final
<p style="text-align: justify;"The coach said that in view of the final of the World Test Championship against India to be held this month, it was decided to rest Williamson. Stead said, "The decision to keep Williamson out was taken in view of the final of the World Test Championship to be held in Southampton and we are confident that Williamson will be fit for the match by then."
<p style="text-align: justify;"Last year also Williamson had to face pain in the elbow. This year Williamson was also out of the initial matches of IPL season 14 due to elbow pain. New Zealand, however, expect Kane Williamson to be fully fit by the final of the World Test Championship.
